People on Kauai love to gather and watch the sunset. For locals and visitors alike, it’s a tremendously popular activity. And the south side, because of its location, offers some of the best vantage points on the island.
From The Aloha House, you can easily reach several good sunset spots. Here’s a list of recommendations:
- Poipu Beach Park
- The Harbor (a.k.a., Kukuiula Beach)
- Prince Kuhio Lawn at The Beach House
- The Sunset Wall on Ho’onani Road
The most convenient of these locations is The Sunset Wall, just a short walk down Ho’onani Road toward the ocean. Once you reach the stone wall on the ocean side, you’ve arrived. The long wall stretches all the way from Koloa Landing to the Sheraton Kauai Resort.
During the day, this stone wall might not look like much. But come sunset, you’ll find dozens and dozens of people there, cars parked on both sides of the road, everyone leaning in, as the sun melts into the Pacific.
It’s a wonderful Kauai tradition, this collective gathering to witness the fading of the day. We highly recommend it. It’s exactly the kind of good-old-fashioned entertainment you come to Hawaii on vacation for.
