We think it’s fair to say most people don’t come to Kauai for the shopping. The main draw is the scenic beauty of the place. Kauai is a much better fit for adventurers and eco-tourists, than it is for shopaholics.
That said, shopping does offer a nice change of pace. It’s fun to browse the stores for souvenirs or island wear. And who doesn’t like an ice cream cone, now and then?
In the interest of full disclosure, we should mention that we’re biased. But the best shopping on Kauai—by far— can be found at the Shops at Kukuiula, just a short walk up the road from The Aloha House.
Here you’ll find, among other selections, higher end clothing stores, art galleries, a surf shop, restaurants, and a gourmet grocery store as good as anything you will find in California.
The developers who created the Shops at Kukuiula invested heavily in the project, and the quality and attention to detail really show. The clean lines of the architecture combined with the pleasant, shaded outdoor spaces remind us of the best of the best resort commercial destinations. Think Santa Barbara or Seaside, Florida.
And while this won’t sound sexy, there’s a fully-stocked CVS store and pharmacy in the Shops at Kukuiula. Need some extra sun screen? A six-pack of beer? A container of milk? The CVS has you covered. And it could not be any more convenient. From the front door of The Aloha House, you can be there walking within two minutes, under a minute if you’re driving.
Let’s call the Shops at Kukuiula one of the perks of staying at The Aloha House. We are super conveniently located, right in the middle of it all.
